Proverbs 3:15 She is more precious than rubies: and all the things thou canst desire are not to be compared unto her.
This is one of four verses, in the book of Proverbs, that compare something or someone to rubies. This comparison shows the great value of the thing being compared.
This exact same things is said again in Proverbs 8:11, and something similar is said of the lips of knowledge in Proverbs 20:15. Perhaps the most known is Proverbs 31:10, where this is said of a virtuous woman. Outside of Proverbs, Job 28:18 also says that wisdom is worth more than rubies. The only other mention of rubies is in Lamentations 4:7. Rubies are then given to us in the Bible as jewels of the highest value.
These beautiful red stones are only used in the Bible to discuss things worth far more than money. In this verse it is wisdom that holds such great value. In fact, wisdom is so valuable, that nothing can be compared to it. There is no treasure you can lay up that can compare to wisdom and what it has to offer.
God made everyone of those precious jewels, He knows their value well. The whole word is said to be His in Psalms 24:1. My opinion on the matter isn’t worth much, but the one who made it all and owns it all should be listened to.
God has possessed wisdom throughout all eternity. Proverbs tells us that wisdom was with Him when He founded the world. From the perspective of eternity God tells you that wisdom is a treasure above all others. This is why we must seek wisdom with all our strength. It is worth it.
