Proverbs 2:13  Who leave the paths of uprightness, to walk in the ways of darkness;

Frowardness and the froward man are mentioned often in Proverbs.  However, the first thing we need to know about him is that his goal is to deceive you and lead you from the path of uprightness.   He wants to take those who walk in the light of God’s Word, those who walk according to what is right, and convince them to walk in darkness.  He is a salesman offering darkness in exchange for light, evil in the place of good, and wickedness in the place of righteousness.

Yet many fall for his deceit every day. When you hear about those who fall victim to some scam, who respond to an email claiming to be from a well-known corporation, and they lose everything to something that anyone could see as a scam from afar off, we always wonder how could they be so easily fooled.  Yet, the froward man has led us into sin or foolish decisions many times in our lives.  Looking back, we can see how obvious it was that it was a scam, but somehow we were blind in that moment.

The froward man is good at what he does, and he knows how to convince you that whatever can be found in the darkness is worth abandoning the light and righteousness for.  This is exactly what happened when the serpent convinced Eve that knowing good and evil was worth the cost of losing their home in the garden and their fellowship with God.  It seems unimaginable. Yet, how many men traded their families for alcohol or even just to get ahead at their jobs?

Don’t let him convince you to leave the light for darkness.
