Nine One Five

Proverbs 2:10  When wisdom entereth into thine heart, and knowledge is pleasant unto thy soul;

While the payoff to this verse is seen in the next one, we can glean some additional understanding from this verse.  Here we see what should be the natural product of understanding righteousness, judgment, and equity;  namely, that wisdom will enter into our hearts. This is indeed how God will strengthen this muscle, this is how He will exercise and grow our wisdom.

As we read His Word, pray for wisdom, and seek His understanding, we will increase in understanding.  That same understanding will help us to comprehend these three building blocks and allow wisdom to enter into our hearts.

Understanding will also make knowledge pleasant to us.  It is natural that information means more to you if you understand it. We are told a little of this relationship in Proverbs 14:6 “A scorner seeketh wisdom, and findeth it not: but knowledge is easy unto him that understandeth.”  The more we understand, the easier it is for us to collect and retain information. If you know why we do something you are far more likely to remember it.  If you understand what a verse is saying it is much easier to hide it in your heart.

We are naturally drawn to information we have a better understanding of.  If I tell you what a hymn means or the story of how and why it was written, that hymn will take on a new and special meaning for you.  The better we understand the world around us the easier it is to retain the information given to us about it; and we will have more wisdom in our hearts to rightly apply that knowledge.
