Proverbs 2:8 He keepeth the paths of judgment, and preserveth the way of his saints.
The reason you can trust in this dependable wisdom is that it is true. It keeps the path of judgment, because the truth will keep us from judgment that is corrupted by two of the most common enemies of judgment. hypocrisy or partiality.
Most judge things based on how they feel and not on what is true. They let their partiality for someone cause them to favor their opinions or arguments over the truth. This is also true in the matter of self judgment; most struggle to judge righteously when judging themselves.
Most men are hypocrites whether we admit it or not. We will criticize someone else for getting angry, but try to justify ourselves. We will give our friends a pass for saying something rude, but condemn our enemies for every little word. Our children are fine even if they are destroying our homes, but a child who is a little fussy at church is somehow a burden. We allow ourselves mercy and demand others do it too, but scarcely show that same mercy to anyone else.
Hypocrisy and partiality are enemies of judgement; but having godly wisdom, wisdom focused on truth, will protect us from this. Sound wisdom will lay pure paths for us, and preserve the way of God’s Saints. Saints are just those who are sanctified to God in a covenant relationship, it refers to saved people in general. As saved people God offers us wisdom that will keep us out of trouble and protect us from misusing judgment. He will use it to sanctify us to Him in our daily lives... if we let Him.
