Proverbs 2:4 If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures;
How would you seek after treasure? Would you not look for a map or hunt for clues as to where it is hidden? Would pour through books and study to know more? For silver, you would mine for as long as it takes until you find a vein of ore. Then you would labor tirelessly trying to extract it all. Afterward, you would toil to refine it, in an effort to separate the dross from the silver, so that you might have the purest form of said silver. In both scenarios you would pay the cost necessary to fund such an expedition and trade years of your life to reach your goal.
Why though? Because the treasure you seek is worth the time, effort, energy, and cost that would need to be inflicted.
Is the wisdom found in God’s Word not worth more than any treasure? If so, we must apply the same principles. We must go to where the vein of God’s truth can be found - His Word. And, we must labor relentlessly each day of our lives to mine out as much truth as we can. As we excavate that truth, we must also give time to refine the information we are extracting. We must remove the dross of personal opinions and anything else that shouldn’t be mixed with the truth.
We must pour over God’s Word like a treasure seeker searching each and every minute portion and the full length, breadth and depth of God's precious Word. We need only to trust it, study it, and follow it; it and only it will lead us to the truth.
