Proverbs
Nine One Five
#02
Proverbs 1:02 To know wisdom and instruction; to perceive the words of understanding;
In the next few verses, Solomon lays out the mission statement for the existence of the Book of Proverbs. Put simply, the goal of the book is to teach the concepts of wisdom, instruction, and understanding.
The words “instruction” and “perceive” refer to how we receive information. This is significant because they are both tied to knowledge. It is by perceiving information, or by being instructed in it, that we receive knowledge. Knowledge simply being, what we know, either through education (Instruction) or experience (Perception). This is fascinating, because as we explore the book, we will find that there are three primary forms of intelligence in the Bible: wisdom, knowledge, and understanding. Knowledge is what you know, understanding is the ability to understand the information presented unto you, and wisdom is the ability to use or apply that knowledge. These are the roots of all other forms of intelligence. I would liken it to our primary colors: red, blue, and yellow. With those three colors you can create any other color simply by mixing them. As we discuss the various aspects of intelligence mentioned in Proverbs we will see how they stem from mixing these three. With this introduction, we are given this lovely encouragement, that if we will study this book God will teach how to receive the knowledge He is giving. He will also give us the ability to understand it and the wisdom to know how to use it. This is not only an expression of the purpose of this book, but a promise from God. A promise that He will make you wise if you will just study it.
